Using a small wooden spoon to make a mug of chai next to a small bowl and jar of Instant Chai Latte Mix

Making chai lattes has never been easier! This Instant Chai Latte Mix makes comforting chai lattes possible instantly. Just add water and your favorite sweetener and enjoy!

This convenient mix makes it easy to have your favorite spice-filled beverage on busy mornings, at the office, when traveling, and beyond! It also makes a great gift for the dairy-free chai-lovers in your life! Just 5 minutes and 6 ingredients required, friends. Whatchai waiting for?!

Coconut milk powder, black tea bags, nutmeg, cloves, cardamom, ginger, and cinnamon

Recipe Inspiration

It’s no secret we’re BIG chai fans! We love a classic masala chai or a dirty chai, and we’ve infused the flavors of a chai latte into countless treats (from crème brûlée to cookies, hot chocolate, and more!).

With 13 years of blogging behind us and 13 chai recipes (and counting!) on the blog, it felt like time to reunite with our beloved. Plus, it would just be wrong to finish Year 14 without 14 chai-inspired recipes, right? RIGHT!

Now that that’s settled, let’s chat about this newest addition: our Instant Chai Latte Mix, inspired by our 3-Ingredient Instant Hot Chocolate and 5-Minute Caffeine-Free Chai Mix. This newest recipe is a black tea + spice mix with added coconut milk powder. That means once your Instant Chai Latte Mix is ready, you can make chai lattes anywhere you have hot water! Whoop whoop!

Blender with black tea and spices

How to Make Instant Chai Latte Mix

The first step is to blend your black tea and spices into a finer powder, which helps them dissolve better in the water. The warming, masala chai-inspired spices we use in this recipe include cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, clove, and optional nutmeg.

Next, we stir in coconut milk powder, and it’s chai latte time! If you’re going to be taking this mix on the go, it’s a good idea to add a granulated sweetener (such as coconut sugar or cane sugar) at this time. But if you’re going to be enjoying it at home and/or want to use a liquid sweetener, we prefer to sweeten when serving.

Blender with black tea and spices ground into a fine powder

If you’re making your chai latte at home and are willing to put in a little extra effort (for a cafe-style result!), we highly recommend making your chai in a heat-safe blender. It makes it extra creamy and smooth, and enhances the flavor of the spices that much more. To the blender, add:

  • Instant Chai Latte Mix
  • Sweetener – we like monk fruit, but coconut sugar, stevia, honey, maple syrup, or cane sugar would all work
  • Hot water (or warmed milk, such as almond) – use milk for a thicker, creamier latte
  • Collagen (vegan, if desired) – adds protein + extra creaminess

We hope you LOVE this chai! It’s:

Warming
Aromatic
Comforting
Customizable
Easy to make
& SO giftable!

Pair with your favorite pastry for the ultimate cafe-style experience! Here are some tasty options: Chai-Spiced Oatmeal Raisin Bars, Flourless Chai-Spiced Oatmeal Cookies, Fluffy Cinnamon Swirl Muffins (Vegan + GF), and 1-Bowl Pumpkin Muffins (Vegan + GF).

CHAI LATTE MIX

  • 2 bags plain black tea (2 bags yield ~2 tsp // optional // use decaf or omit for caffeine-free)
  • 2 Tbsp ground cinnamon (cassia for best flavor)
  • 1 Tbsp ground ginger
  • 2 ¼ tsp ground cardamom
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg (optional)
  • 1 pinch ground clove
  • 1 ⅓ cup coconut milk powder (we used Native Forest)

TO MAKE A CHAI LATTE

  • 2 Tbsp chai latte mix (from above)
  • Sweetener to taste (we used a small amount of monk fruit sweetener, but coconut sugar, stevia, honey, maple syrup, and cane sugar are all great options)
  • 2 Tbsp collagen peptides or vegan collagen (optional for protein + extra creaminess)
  • 1 ¼ cup hot water
  • In a small blender or spice grinder, combine the black tea, cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, nutmeg (optional), and clove. Blitz to combine. Transfer to a jar and add the coconut milk powder. Shake to combine. If clumpy, transfer to a bowl and whisk. Mix will keep at room temperature up to 1-2 months. Or opt to keep in the refrigerator for longer-term freshness.
  • To make a hot chai latte in a BLENDER (our preferred method for best texture/flavor/frothiness): Add 2 Tbsp (18 g) of mix to a heat-safe high-speed blender along with sweetener of choice + collagen peptides (optional). Then add 1 ¼ cup (300 ml) very hot water (or warmed milk of choice — see notes) and blend on high until frothy and combined, ~30 seconds. Enjoy!

  • To make a hot chai latte in a MUG: Simply add the following to a large mug: 2 Tbsp (18 g) of mix, 1 ¼ cup (300 ml) very hot water (or warmed milk of choice — see notes) , sweetener of choice, and collagen peptides (optional). Then stir or whisk vigorously or use an electronic frother to combine. Enjoy!

*If you would like a sweetened version of the mix, you can add 1/3 cup (59 g) coconut sugar at the same time as the coconut milk powder. When ready to make a chai latte, combine 2 ½ Tbsp (22 g) chai latte mix with 1 ¼ cup (300 ml) very hot water.
*For a creamier and thicker chai latte, you can use warmed dairy-free milk in place of hot water. We don’t recommend using more coconut milk because it overpowers the chai flavors.
*The spice mix might settle at the bottom of the mug as you enjoy the chai, but we found it didn’t affect the flavor. Keep a spoon handy to give it a stir when drinking if the spices need to be dispersed.
*You could also add the mix to hot coffee for a dirty chai!
*We tried using this mix for an iced latte but found that, unfortunately, the coconut milk powder separates and feels a bit “oily.”
