Russell Nicolet boldly decided to become an attorney when he was young, even though no one else in his family was in the legal field. His desire to help others in difficult times drove him to choose. Through many difficulties, Nicolet persevered, sometimes leaping unquestioningly forward to make his dream happen.

“I started Nicolet Law as a one-person law office (me) to help others,” Nicolet explains.

Today, the Russell Nicolet Law Firm operates in three states and helps people through the worst times.

Persistence Through Early Challenges

A significant challenge at the start of Nicolet’s career path was that he was a first-generation lawyer. Without a family member to provide advice and guidance, he was often at a loss as to how to proceed. Nicolet overcame this obstacle by continuously studying and working hard to become more knowledgeable and improve his skills.

He also sought out mentors in the legal profession early in his career and found some attorneys willing to fill that role. According to him, Nicolet was obsessed with helping solve his client’s cases and wanted to improve himself for them.

“I spent a lot of time as a young attorney doing research in the Washington County Law Library to make sure that I could effectively handle cases for clients, even though I was a brand-new attorney,” Nicolet says.

When Nicolet started his one-man law firm, he didn’t know what to expect, but he decided to plunge into the challenge and make it work. Eventually, the Nicolet Law firm grew to have a team of dozens of employees and offices in three states across the Midwest.

“I am proud of the growth, but I am most proud of the excellent folks that work here who come in day after day to fight for the hard-working people and families in the Midwest that need our help. We will not stop growing and fighting for those people. Everyone who works here feels and understands that what we do is not only a job, but a calling to help, serve, and stand up for those who need it most,” Nicolet states.

Learning From Top Trial Attorneys

When Nicolet decided to concentrate on personal injury cases, he knew he would need to learn from the best to hold insurance companies and large companies accountable.

“I tried to soak up as much as I could from all the attorneys I came across, and really learn from really good attorneys that I had the pleasure of meeting,” Nicolet adds.

He even sought advice from the lawyers he encountered in litigation. However, Nicolet soon realized that to expand his knowledge base, he would need to look beyond Wisconsin and Minnesota for mentors. Nicolet traveled to California, Florida,

Georgia and New York to learn from and train with the best trial lawyers in the world.

Nicolet’s persistence in learning all he could to serve his clients better paid off not only with case wins but also with recognition such as Top 40 under 40 Trial Lawyers, Top 100 Trial Lawyers by the National Trial Lawyers Association, and SuperLawyer by SuperLawyers Magazine.

Now that Nicolet is an established and successful personal injury attorney, he mentors other lawyers.

“I have settled and taken cases to verdict, which include some of the largest amounts awarded in those counties. Additionally, I have had the privilege to help guide and support other lawyers at my firm in obtaining outstanding settlements and verdicts as well,” Nicolet concludes.
